Making The Perfect & Proper Golf Swing

Golf is a game where self- assurance really pays. It is the keyword to success and the joy of playing golf. Practice is also an essential factor towards the improvement of the game. But just as each individual has a different body, arm length and strength, so will their swings differ. There is a perfect and proper golf swing; but it is different for each individual.

Every individual who wants to excel in golf has to find that personal proper golf swing by adapting his/her body to the basic rules of the game. Given below are a few helpful hints and that might make you make the proper golf swing, the next time on the course.

Warming Up Pays
Just like in any other sport, practice makes perfect. Practice is an important aspect of the game without which one cannot expect to play even a good game of golf. It builds up not only the technical aspects of the game but also yourself confidence, an essential requirement for any game. The practice area is the place where the game all begins. It is even advisable to spend a few moments on the practice course before going in for a tournament.

The practice area is the place where you can warm up, stretch your muscles and improve your skills in hitting the ball. Starting practice with the wedge is the best way to start, slowly working your way up the entire gamut of clubs. You get the feel of the clubs and the correct sense of hitting the ball with each kind of club.

Giving Power To The Swing
Golf, unlike badminton is not a game where the wrist plays a major role. Amateur golfers start to hit the ball using only their arms and their wrists. At first, for the novice, it may seem to work but the real power does not come from the wrist and the arm, as they will find out later as they progress. To achieve an effective and proper golf swing, the entire body has to be brought into play.

The entire body includes balance also without which no swing is effective. Just as any structure requires a strong foundation, so does your swing; feet solidly planted on the ground with perfect balance. And it is left to you to find that particular placing of the feet the gives you the sense of a perfect balance. Start with your feet about six inches apart and slowly spread your legs till you find the optimum distance. Some golfers keep their legs together, some wife apart. As stated before, golf is an individual game with individual styles.

Note The Position Of Your Knees
Keep your body’s weight firmly on the inside of your right foot. Bend your knees slightly on the backswing. When you tae the backswing, ensure that the right knee is kept firm. This helps you to fully utilize the power from your torso as you come back on your downswing. Beginners forget this and lose out on the swing.

By not keeping the knees firm, the hips sway and the turn becomes overdone. Both your knees should be firm when you execute the downswing. Imagine that you are holding a basketball between your thighs. Your knees will automatically firm up and get stabilized.

No little emphasis can be placed on the need to practice constantly and consistently. By following the tips mentioned above and listening to what the professionals tell you, you can improve your game to a large extent. But it has to be kept in mind that you have to find out that proper golf swing that works best for you.

As you mentioned above, and as a very average golfer at best, warming up is the best thing you can do before you ever tee it up. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, but I know from experience, I play better when I stretch a bit and warm the old body up.
