Golf is a tough sport in which you rely on your clubs and your talent to make perfect shots. But for your clubs to help you improve your game, you have to take proper care of them. Also, golf clubs are usually a pretty big investment, which makes it mandatory to take care of them. If you want to learn how to take care of your golf clubs, read the following lines and apply the advice given here.
Storage is very important for the well-being of your golf clubs. To remain in a good shape for a long time, the golf clubs should be stored in a dry place at room temperature. For example, you can store the golf clubs in an indoor closet. This location is ideal because it will keep the clubs protected from moisture and improper temperature.
Clean the clubs after each game
After each game, it’s mandatory that you clean the clubs to keep them in a perfect shape. Also, you should keep a towel with you when you’re on the golf course. This way, you can wipe any debris that lands on the club and that might affect your swing. To clean the clubs when you arrive home, soak them in soapy water for the stubborn debris to loosen up, and scrub them gently with a toothbrush. Before storing them away, make sure that the golf clubs are completely dry.
You should always cover the woods with a headcover for them to stay protected from getting jostled in the bag. Just make sure that the head of the wood club is wiped off and dried before putting the headcover on it. Otherwise, the humidity that will form is going to damage the club. Also, due to the fact that putters are prone to damage, they should be covered when they’re in the bag.
Proper shaft care
Steel shafts should be wiped with a towel and kept in a dry environment. If rust spots appear on the steel shafts, use a fine grade steel wool to remove them. After cleaning the steel shafts, you should apply car wax on them for optimal care.
Graphite shafts should be protected by covering them with longneck headcovers. When they get dirty, clean the graphite shafts with water and a soft cloth. Also, apply quality furniture wax on the shafts after cleaning and drying them.
